I remain unconvinced that cramming a lot of information into a single glyph, no matter how organised, is a good idea.

It *is* that. Each glyph has a ton of strokes. That's more information, whether it's meaningful or not.

It only looks like that because we haven't yet convinced a computer to be able to reconstruct a Chinese character directly from its constituent parts. If we did we wouldn't have to give each one a new "glyph".

I'm sure it is, but my original point remains. cramming lots of info into one space sucks for many reasons.

Maybe you do this, or maybe you don't, but it's not impossible for someone to commit every word into memory as a single object.

If you don't think so, any competently designed text with sinograms and Latin letters in two separate blocks would have the sinograms be printed significantly larger than each Latin letter.
