I feel like even if I did make London money I'd still be more stingy about it than you, so thank you very much indeed!

I'm kinda stingy too, I don't know what to say really haven't thought about having to answer for it but you I feel like you deserve more

I feel like paying employees has helped a lot to get me to be less stingy, at least when it comes to spending the money on other people, rather than on stuff for myself.
20:46:46
shinmera
I think spending it on other people is definitely the best way to spend money at all.
20:47:08
shinmera
Since, you know, everyone could use more money, so it's kinda like a hand-made socialism kinda deal :v
20:51:22
shinmera
Gnuxie: distributed/anarchistic socialism, yeah. Centralised is too prone to corruption and all the same follies as capitalism.

i am getting towards the final stages, but for now i am living off my savings at home

turning trial-vr into a startup is something i could do but it is moving further down the list of options
20:55:12
selwyn
this paper we are working on is upsetting me a lot, but we are close to getting it done
20:56:29
shinmera
selwyn: As much as I think trial-vr is cool, I heavily recommend against trying a startup with it.
20:57:02
shinmera
Because I project that it is infinitely unlikely you'll end up anywhere except at bankruptcy.
20:57:42
selwyn
but it is generally considered very good to have written, say, three papers by the time you finish
20:57:58
selwyn
shinmera: well, that is reassuring to hear, because i have made similar calculations :)
20:58:38
shinmera
Unless someone else can bankroll my employees for me I will end up bankrupt. And I'm "just" making a game, rather than trying the even harder thing of doing a niche vr tool.

And while listening to it I had a really strange experience I don't recall ever having before
21:04:53
shinmera
namely that just listening to what they were saying about it made me want to throw up, physically
21:05:16
shinmera
The entire social sphere and mannerisms around venture capital, startups, and all of that literally makes me sick.

quantum computing is getting money thrown at it by everyone, which means that there are actual job opportunities in companies now

What *I* don't understand is that there's hundreds of thousands of people ready to throw themselves under the bus to defend these pricks
21:23:37
shinmera
Though I guess people are literally indoctrinated to believe that having money equals success, so maybe defending these assholes is a defense mechanism to avoid cognitive dissonance

i think in the case of elon, he is attractive because he has the vibe of someone trying to do cool 20th century shit
21:30:33
shinmera
Nah, he has the vibe of "he's 'one of us' doing all the things *I* wish I could do!!"
21:31:17
shinmera
Or at least that's what I figure from the defences I've seen. As in that he's "aloof" and "approachable" and he "doesn't take it serious"

Gnuxie: I saw some very interesting videos recently that explain the hard work phenomenon. Let me see if I can find them again real quick

I went to school by bike most of the time. Downhill in winter at -15C sometimes

any git wizards know if there's a way to have git-subtree-like behaviour but have both the "root" and the "sub repo" be entirely separate instances? Meaning I want a central repo A that has both the root and the sub-repo, but also a repo B that is just the root without the sub-repo, and a repo C that is just the sub-repo.
8:17:37
shinmera
if I remember correctly standard subtree means the history of the sub repo is merged into the history of the base repo
8:21:14
shinmera
The reason I want this, to give some context, is that I'd like to separate out the assets folder of Kandria so I can publish the source without assets publicly.

shinmera
But at the same time I can't expect my coworkers to know enough git-fu to fuck around with submodules or subtrees or symlinks or multiple repos
