ACTION used StumpWM for years; the primary headache was being reminded of the X window system's horrors, each time some application crash cascaded into unhandleable errors.

not one of which I am aware; these days I simply have not bothered setting up a graphical environment on this machine. I think it is healthier for my spleen to minimize my dependence on high-resolution bitmap garbage.

I don't recall StumpWM being involved in any crashes more frequently than once per year, and over time, they seemed to be the fault of applications, rather than StumpWM; however I never bothered following the black rabbit down the hole.

back to topic... beach, are "hostile libraries" something other than Ken Thompson-style compiler compiler trojans?

adlai: As I wrote, by "hostile library" I mean one that was not specifically written to be loaded into SICL, and that might have strange compile-time dependencies that must be handled specially during SICL bootstrapping.
