jcowan is right: in jackdaniel's link we have (hebrew) shekel ~ (latin/greek) sicl ~ (english) shekel

for sickle the etymology is indeed from latin 'seco' to cut > latin 'sicilis' thing which cuts > english sickle

so the confusion here is actually that in latin 'sicl-' and 'sicil-' appear to be very similar but in fact there's an extra short i in the etymon for 'sickle', so they are distinct, but may have been merged in polish at some point. either way, different lines of descent

(i won't proclaim myself as an 'expert', but im getting my masters in PIE historical linguistics right now, so maybe that counts for something)

although expertise and being an expert aren't entirely aligned: I wouldn't call myself an expert either, but I know where to look and what the answers mean, which is expertise

to beat a dead horse (because why not), I don't see where I've even used the world "sicle"
