right now HN's top two threads in /active are "GPT-5.6" (don't care) and "Grok 4.5" (don't care). And GPT-5.6 is the top of the default view and /classic as well.

It is, again, like a forum for FPS games became half-filled with aimbot advertisements. 1337h4x0rz 5.6 now lets you spin 10% faster in your aimbotting.

I do like that we can see who ever coded because it's fun, inspiring, awesome, and who coded because it was a job less demanding than construction work.

The VCs behind HN were always in it for the money, but HN itself resisted until about 2018-2020 or so. It was supposed to maintain quality so they could advertise Y Combinator there.

I tried to design a gnucobol preprocessor that accepted Dibol (which has a standard) but it broke down on the issue of file descriptors, which in Dibol are programmer-chosen integer expressions as in Fortran or Basic, whereas in Cobol they are symbolic names.
