I can only assume that the military has had some mission-critical software running on Genera all this time and they finally ported it to Java or something

and (importantly) it is illegal to charge the military a different price than everyone else

Joined late, I assume the discussion is the release of Genera for non-commercial use?

on one hand it is cool that genera is refreshed and made legally available (I assume that it is unless some substantial claim is made public); on another hand LLM claims sound like a desperate marketing lie and (for now) it is a not yet available for try without some application process

I hope there is interest enough for it to be enjoyed. I've seen a decline in the "hacker" mindset in the last few years.

I have some uninteresting takes on the topic, and they coincide with the last few years timeframe of events, but we'd be discussing llms again ;)

that said I hope that portable genera is successful enough to grow beyond invitation only, with a free (even if non-commercial) license

I thought more folks would be trying Medley as another historic environment. A few CL lookie-loos pop in on occasion. :)

if I had time I'd happily explore Medley to be honest, but I'm too busy with other CL stuff

Asking odd questions and expecting it to just magically support Quickproject or Roswell

It's all good. No worries. Right now I think the last topic of discussion was that packages were loading into an unexpected default area.
