i disagree. dynamic tiling is an anti-feature. just because you _can_ do something does _not_ necessarily make it a good idea. similarly, just because a bunch of other folks do something _still_ does _not_ make it a good idea. indeed, it may well only indicate that you're good a playing the bully and more interested in job security than the pursuit of technical excellence (e.g. systemd). if you want dynamic then you have more

gotwf: I usually agree with you about this sort of thing, but I think it depends on how it's done, and in this case I'm optimistic that it'll be OK.

gotwf: You probably agree fish shell's motto (well, one of its mottos), "Configurability is the root of all evil". See https://fishshell.com/docs/current/design.html

I also disagree with the presumption that popularity is necessarily a good thing. Los Angeles and New York are popular and although many would argue to the contrary, I'd sure never want to live in such polluted mess ever again.

Critical mass, otoh, is something worth discussing and stump's been extant long enough now that it seems to have achieved that objective.

Anywho... I am admittedly a bit jaded, having watched a few good projects become "popular" lost their way.

gotwf: what does dynamic vs static mean in the context of window managers? That you manage the frames automatically?

dynamic generally means that when a new window (as in x11) shows up, the window manager automatically decides where to put it and rearranges your other windows as needed.

wh/is way fsck'd cuz i want my "window" where i want them - not where the wm _thinks_ i want them, because, after all, i am (hopefully) smarter than the wm.

heh... at least w.r.t. my "window" placement/arrangement. all else is up for debate o.O

gotwf: with WSE + frame preferences ideally it is not that the WM is smarter than one but that one won't have to repeat oneself.

hi, when i apply command float-this, the size of floated window followed previous size. can i change the size after it's floated?
