so, i know i can use xprop to send notifications to stump, they are in the top corner. i frequently do this for org-mode reminders and mpd playlist data

for things like important notifications (backup complete, portscan detected, etc), is there a persistent notification method? something that requires an action to dismiss?

it appears that I've had this in my config for years and it doesn't happen very much

well... that's why it died. the value "tea" was in *colors* and when it tried to look up the value for that color name it wasn't found, so it threw an error

geez, i absolutely love lisp. there's few other languages i can approach an unknown code base and just jump to the errors :P

so if i want start things in specific frames, i can use run-shell-command to launch the program, but then i'd need to hook *new-window-hook* to wait until it launches a window before moving to the next command to start.

i don't want to "tag" windows, i don't want to have 10 carefully organized screens

I don't name frames I was just confused about how you'd know where to put the window?
23:28:57
Demosthenex
i have a startup script which creates all the frames, it'd be fine to run the command and wait for a screen to return before continuing

but making a hook run isn't the same as "launch program and wait for the window to appear" while you launch several in a row

I think I've never really used a floating window, but that'd be good for like... video confrences
