I have narrowed down the bug where my key remappings get eaten. It happens after I use any xcape-mapped keys. Once I use one, my remappings no longer take effect for the current window until I switch to a different windown and then back.

PuercoPope: yes, you communicate with scsynth via OSC messages. see here: http://doc.sccode.org/Reference/Server-Command-Reference.html

for synthdefs, that's another beast, you have to write those to a file and then send an OSC message to scsynth to load the synthdef from that file

unfortunately synthdefs are compiled to a binary format, which is not quite as easy, but it's documented here: http://doc.sccode.org/Reference/Synth-Definition-File-Format.html

PuercoPope: OSC is the most direct way of communicating with scsynth. but if you want to use scsynth from lisp, cl-collider is the library that you'd probably want to use. https://github.com/byulparan/cl-collider . i contribute to it regularly and am pretty familiar with it, let me know if i can assist in any way

oh, whoops, i see you are watching cl-collider, i didn't see you had it starred so i wasn't sure if you were aware of it
