Cthulhux: As I recall it was discussed in a stumpwm thread, and it was brought up that there wasn't a compositor written in CL

Cthulhux: There are a few now, but I'm not sure if most of them are worthy of generating a lot of buzz

It's an odd thing. It's buzzworthy because it's desperately needed. I just wish things would move a lot faster than it has so far

I suppose people don't want to move to Wayland before there's proper software alternatives, and wayland development will be slower from lack of people, which will make less of an incentive to produce drivers. The separation between wm/compositor/toolkit and the confusion between server/compositor is probably hampering development a lot.

If there were resources for it, it'd probably be a great idea to have a proper reference desktop environment made for it to kickstart development.

i'd guess that the wayland development is so slow because nobody bothers to make an alternative

I was honestly surprised at the Xorg undertaking. That's not a project I'd jump on, but damn that needed doing

mog: I think you should be able to just scroll up in the compiler output, there are two errors mentioned in it somewhere

They should be compiler log messages, not StumpWM log messages. The output is going somewhere, you just have to find it
