i cant move to wayland till stump gets ported for it ...
19:36:45
Cthulhux
"porting" window managers to wayland could be tricky
19:37:06
Cthulhux
stumpwm would probably be easier to port than dwm (<3 lisp), but still..
19:38:37
mog
ya i realize but i have no reason to upgrade to wayland either
19:38:59
Cthulhux
nobody has a rush for that. replacing working infrastructure is rarely a good idea.
19:39:39
mog
yup thats why i still get to work via my horse

Honestly I don't think StumpWM would be easier to port than dwm. dwm is tiny and could easily be rewritten, StumpWM is fairly big

Cthulhux
i have *not* checked the source code yet, but i'm (mostly) sure that the layer of code which is closely tied to x is smaller with stumpwm
19:51:44
Cthulhux
a large code base does not mean more code to rewrite :)
19:51:44
mood
I can guarantee you it's not
19:52:00

One of the big problems with StumpWM is that its codebase is not particularly well-structured
19:52:06
mood
Calls to CLX are everywhere
19:52:40
Cthulhux
so the ratpoison rewrite needs a rewrite?
19:52:58
mood
I think yes :) But StumpWM is "good enough", so there's no motivation
19:53:04
mood
Good is the enemy of better
19:53:49
Cthulhux
stumpwm is the only window manager which has most of the relevant (to me) features
19:54:00
Cthulhux
except awesome but the newer awesomes are fucking bloat
19:54:13
Cthulhux
i can live with a rotten code as long as it works for me
19:54:36
Cthulhux
or i could just write my own one, but seriously, no i won't.
