::notify Bike yes, and potentially even going further and breaking up modules into components like sbcl does so the basic blocks belong to connected component of the flow graph. i guess a module will only really logically have more than one component when block compiling

Maybe people are expecting a deadline extension, and that's why there are not so many submissions yet.

There is still time though. Has it been announced which time zone the deadline is in? :)

Well, I'm not submitting anything because I have nothing to write about. I'm probably not alone in that situation.

You've seen my try to contribute, but time is short.. "I've worked in the private sector. They expect results!"

But I think we usually have twice as many submissions as slots for papers. Of course, since it is all online, the number of slots can be adapted.

Though, it's interesting when you take into account the widely agreed-upon (in the software-engineering literature) factor 20 difference in productivity between developers with similar training and experience.

So, if you are kind of average, you should be able to slack off at least half the time without anybody noticing.

you said "factor 20 difference in productivity [given] similar training and experience", so if those variables don't account for the difference, which is it?
11:09:05

Ah, I see. Just that some people take advantage of experience in order to learn, and others don't.

Regarding the deadlines: The deadlines of scientific conferences are usually "anywhere on earth", meaning you can still submit as long as any timezone is still on that day.

The other thing to know is that deadline extensions are the norm, rather than the exception.
11:09:56

that sounds like "groth mindset", also like your writings on learning and the CLOS example

ck_: But my point is that you don't see a factor 20 difference in salary. So management must not be able to measure individual productivity very well. And that fact can be taken advantage of.

beach: absolutely, and I am a little bit. Context switching is expensive though, and I'm probably not close enough to the 20 to take advantage of it to the full extent
