beach not strictly a cleavir question, but.. i'm contemplating how to implement backquote and i'm aware of these approaches: reader macro, macro, special form, and combinations thereof. i think ECL was the one i saw that had special forms, and iirc sbcl does it all at read time... and there's of course the macro in CLTL2

anyway i'm curious to hear any opinion on the relative merits/tradeoffs of these different ways

all things considered i lean toward the qualities of expedience/simplicity in my own impl... and reader macros that expand to special forms is currently the most attractive

Hi beach, unfortunately I haven't been able to take a closer look a cleavir, but I did manage to make my toy lambda compiler presentable. Also just got a job at a compilers team, which is pretty exciting. One month to go. :)

Thank you!! Proud to say it's a job at igalia - javascript engine compilers. I'll know more details next month.

I'm there right now to meet everyone. It's a wonderful group of people, and some lispers are here too.

Is there a lot of progress on Cleavir, since we last talked? I had a difficult last months at my previous/current job.

I created a Cleavir version 2 so that I could move faster without disturbing Clasp. That one has evolved a bit, yes.

[though now is not a good time because my (admittedly small) family is recovering from surgery]

I got some Swedish wine (which is very rare and very expensive) as a gift for my birthday, but I have nobody to share it with. :(

I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to drink your wine ;-) happy birthday! I wish you the best possible progress with your LispOS work :-)

ACTION tries to judge whether in beach's culture a joke "256 is definetely in your reach" would be a funny one or implying age of 128 and making jokes about death would be rude

beach: you should probably bring the wine to the ELS2020, I don't think we'll be able to afford anything in switzerland, lol :)

I can think about another joke, that given the number of lispers splitting wine between three people is not that bad

I need to go fix dinner. I might check in a bit later. If not, I'll be back tomorrow morning.
