So obviously our ordinary heating system on the ground floor broke down almost two weeks ago. Luckily, we have a backup system in the form of a reversible AC system. But the floor is cold. :)

And I just called them back after the vacation, and the first available date is February 5.

If you could make a wormhole from here to your house, hopefully it would even out. Maybe that's a terrible idea for weather patterns though.

So, we in fact have 4 independent heating systems, all heat pumps (we are carbon neutral).

When I buy, I pay 5 or 10 cents per kWh (depending on the time of day). When I sell, I get paid 50 cents.

The deal was better when we installed them, because panels were more expensive then. Now, the prices is significantly lower.

Every so often, scammers (or maybe telemarketers) ring us about solar panel installation, but they don't know that we can't install them for whatever reason.

frodef: And we have 5 cents 02:00--08:00 and 13:30--15:30. Half our consumption is at that rate.

beach: our power is quite cheap, but the fee for having the power supplied to your house (i.e. using the power lines) is not.

Not a clue. Our neighbours (who have shared structure and our houses are connected) have solar panels though. Apparently we just can't.

"I don't get why they charge so much for the electricity, we give all the electrons back quickly..."

It's 50, the voltage cycles from positive to negative and back every cycle.

in principle the electrons (well, some other, fairly similar ones) are pushed back instantly..

(I think it came up in #lisp before, we say voltage, current and power here. Well, I say those, and we used them in electronics classes, but I've probably heard worse.)

So the independent structure that manages the grid charges us for transporting our produced electricity, but in fact, we contribute to decreasing the load on the grid.

I think my father referred to the "ohmage" of a guitar amplifier speaker a few days ago. And the "wattage" of light bulbs is quite common.

After a chaotic morning, I spent most of the afternoon with cleanup tasks. The idea is to get rid of the system SICL-GLOBAL-ENVIRONMENT, since it is no longer used. But there is still code using it, though not as part of the current bootstrapping procedure. It is mostly a bunch of standard functions and macros that should be converted and moved. Boring stuff, but it has to be done.
