Good to see noted channel-shitter paule32 has been unbanned to poison #lisp again.

I recall someone said that #lisp had as many bans as you could have, but that is indeed a shame.

i've spent an hour trying to figure out if my mum was pwned or not. fortunately it seems to be a combination of old hardware and microsoft update shenanigans.

that's cool. having access to microsoft office is probably necessary for her. but there's office365 for that, so it could work

libreoffice has been working well enough for the rare times my mom's needed to read a .docx

We almost got away with using LibreOffice, except apparently something doesn't work for my mum's training course.

i am worried that she would just send .odt 's as email attachments and run into problems. i've encountered places which require either .docx or .pdf

Rather than question it, I'll probably just use my university to get a copy.

I think you could set LibreOffice to save docx by default. Then it's fairly hard to send out an odt accidentally.

and it's making me painfully aware again at how little I know about what the game should actually be like.

i am reminded of the short story 'clockwork' by philip pullman in which a storyteller is unable to finish a story.. with unfortunate consequences :

But I can't write an ending that's interesting, satisfying, and you know, not shit.

Like, to make an ending work you need to build tension, make it hit just right, and then resolve it in a satisfying way.

I suppose it works to build a connection by saying "the story starts like this and the end goal is this."

All I know personally is that I've always failed at building proper tension and resolving it well. I can set a tone and mood, I can get the start of a story going, but after that I flounder about and don't know wtf.
