i hope you don't use 4-bit integers to index the extensions
11:22:40
Shinmera
that could be an extension :v
11:23:18
selwyn
that actually happened in the local transport network to count fare zones
11:23:47
selwyn
when there were only 6 of them, they decided '4 bits ought to be enough for anybody'
11:24:48
selwyn
and now, new stations can't be put on the fare system
11:25:15
Shinmera
When was the system made intially? 1960?
11:28:30
selwyn
the fare system is probably really old, but i think that they only digitised it in around 2003
11:28:36
selwyn
iirc after the invention of the byte
11:34:12
selwyn
the lessons of y2k were taken to heart by the designers

Apparently they also can't use #*0000 either so they only get 15.
13:59:05
selwyn
yeah i couldn't find out why that's the case
13:59:33
isoraqathedh
I think #*0000 is used for things with no fare zone (e.g. busses).

Busses, cable car, maybe certain train stations outside of the network where you can only use contactless.

Shinmera: looks a bit strange how the grass only bends one way even when the character is running backwards, though?

SAL9000: you ready for that chat?

Shinmera: regarding VMs on ZFS -- if you are willing to use relatively new tech, there is virtio-fs which basically pipes the FUSE protocol over virtio to/from your VM, giving you "shared folders" with better performance than NFS/SMB.

(not to be confused with the older virtio-9p)
