the history of it makes it a little better, I think: PostgreSQL optimizer is known to have been written in Lisp in the 80s, but then they switched to C like the rest of the system and they did that pg_list.h implementation to help with the porting

pjb: It's funny how you think that I'm ignorant of the topic, though. I'm writing the only Common Lisp game engine that focuses on high performance, high frame rate, and real time over convenience. So when I'm complete it will be the most likely to be usable on actual VR systems without first porting a RTGC to a CL implementation.

xach: I requested the approval of quicklisp-meta on quicklisp-projects issues. When you have time I'll be glad if you accept it. I think the software is portable, I didn't expose neither common lisp implementation or operating system at the implementation.

because they will need to be loaded in the Lisp image for your system to work. When producing the executable, this effectively means embedding that image into the executable. Unless you use an implementation like Embedded Common Lisp (ECL) which is able to do all kinds of magic.

So you start by writing yourself a Lisp system that is not an implementation of Common Lisp?

If you keep using FFI, you're not putting pressure on the lisp ecosystem (implementations, libraries) to improve!
