loke
pillton: What does it do?
6:33:06

loke: I read a paper a while back where the math was so horrific that I thought the paper has to be wrong some where. It was my working to see if it was wrong.
6:34:24
loke
pillton: Right, but when I load the file, nothing is done.
6:34:33
loke
I haven't looked much at the content
6:34:55
pillton
loke: I usually just step through each line and look at the expressions that are printed.
6:35:02
pillton
loke: My maxima skill is very low.
6:35:56
loke
pillton: Copy&paste is kinda broken (i.e. nonexistent) in CLIM at the moment, so it's hard to test that :-)
6:36:22
pillton
loke: I usually do M-x imaxima and then press C-c C-c on each line to see its output.
6:36:46
loke
stuff like that should be supported once I get the editor in place
6:38:02

What is the purpose of texput?
6:39:00
pillton
I think imaxima uses TeX to render math. Texput tells maxima how to output certain expressions as TeX.
6:43:21
pillton
loke: By the look of it, the code only works if you do C-c C-c on each line.
6:43:30
pillton
loke: Sorry, it is probably not a good example.
6:44:09
loke
I was trying to make sense out of it :-)
6:44:21
loke
pillton: Did you try to install climaxima yourself?
6:51:23
pillton
No not yet. I am at work and I won't be able to try it until the weekend.
6:51:41
pillton
I thought I would just give you the code and see what you reported.
6:57:19
pillton
To the author's credit, the paper wasn't wrong. I am convinced they used something like Maxima to do the derivations though.
7:15:15
pillton
loke: Have you told Raymond Toy about your work? He is a maintainer for CMUCL and contributes to Maxima.
7:15:59
loke
pillton: I think he's on the maxima mailing thise, and I did mention the project there

When constructing panes inside a frame using define-application-frame, how can I say that I want the left pane to have a width of N and the right frame to have the width of M?
9:23:18
loke
By default, it will be split in half.
9:23:45
beach
You typically do that in the LAYOUTS section.
9:24:10
beach
Say, for instance (horizontally () (1/2 app1) (1/2 app2)) or something like that.
9:24:16
beach
I forget the exact syntax.
9:24:44
beach
Let me check some other examples...
9:24:53
loke
You said it corrcetly :-)
9:27:06
beach
Or you can do (horizontally () (scrolling (:width ..) app1) (scrolling (:width ...) app2))
13:11:10
beach
loke: I have been busy all day. Unfortunately for reasons beyond my control, I was also disconnected, so I can't read the scrollbacks. I could use Shinmera's log, but I really don't like the interface. So if you told me something important during my absense, you may have to repeat it.
14:45:48
loke
beach: I said nothing important :-)
16:10:44
beach
loke: Are semaphores still used for synchronization, or have they been replaced by something like condition variables?
16:11:42
beach
Oh, I guess it's past midnight. I'll ask again tomorrow.
16:13:11
beach
I guess in my case, I just need a lock.
